Department of Archaeology
The Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts – Tikrit University was established in 2016 in response to the growing academic and research need for studying the cultural heritage of Mesopotamia. Since its inception, the Department has aimed to prepare specialized scientific staff in the fields of archaeology, excavation, and artifact analysis through balanced curricula that integrate theoretical and practical aspects.
The Department has witnessed remarkable academic development, culminating in the establishment of a Master’s program in Ancient Archaeology for the academic year 2024–2025, reflecting its growing scientific stature and ability to meet the requirements of specialized academic research. The Department’s teaching staff consists of holders of advanced degrees in Ancient Archaeology, languages, and cuneiform studies
The Department seeks to achieve leadership in the field of archaeology by establishing a clear academic vision covering all aspects of theoretical and practical work, keeping pace with modern developments in archaeology. It emphasizes equipping students with complementary scientific skills from related disciplines such as history and geography. The Department also focuses on developing the research skills of its faculty members and providing a supportive university environment that ensures adherence to quality standards in academic performance
